This garment is a contemporary translation of the Maharashtran saree: a nauvari which was the traditional attire for Maharastran women from all sectors of society. The saree is tied in the 'dhoti style'
This work translates the traditional nauvari saree (a Maharashtran traditional garment) into a contemporary garment which focuses on athelesiure. The stiff but versatile form of the saree is used as inspiration to create a garment which is meant designed for the brown female body: the body which is often left out of the narrative perpetrated by modern fashion. Taking into consideration the curves of the voluptuous brown body, this garment prioritizes breathability, comfort, and an accentuation of the features of the brown body which are most often concealed by brown women.
